The New Season Of Flip Or Flop Kicked off recently with our favorite couple Tarek and Christina going in to their third season, good for them. Generally speaking we’re not the type who love reality TV, although we do of course keep up to date on the latest from TV land, but we do have a soft spot for Flip Or Flop.
Most reality TV as we are all well aware is obviously scripted to some extent (or completely scripted) but there’s something that makes us all warm and fuzzy about Tarek and Chirstina. While some of the auction moments are more than likely staged and recreated post purchase, and its dubious how much of the work they actually do themselves, the contractors are always the ones swinging the heavy lifting. Nonetheless we do have to give the show credit that all of their projects are not always resounding successes, they have lost money on some of their projects and as we’ve pointed out previously, the returns they get on their flips aren’t always worth the effort. The story itself though is good, and you want to like their characters, they were both real estate agents pre-2008 and when the market collapsed, they needed to find a way to make ends meet. We can read between the lines a bit and assume that they were previously friends with or had a good working relationship with their “Money Guy” Pete De Best. Pete has been a top loan originator in Southern California going on about 15 years and so would make a natural business partner for the El Moussa’s. Apparently Pete also has some street cred in the professional poker crowd.
Regardless of how “real” the show is, both Tarek and Christina are a fun couple to watch and we wish them well in the new season. While you’re watching you can keep an eye out for your own great design ideas and potential to become a real estate flipping mogul, but also remember to take everything with a grain of salt, this is after all, entertainment.
