Colonial architecture has a wonderfully expressive layering of elements, at one time very organized and rigidly planned and providing a amazing play of light and shadow on the surfaces. In this particular instance having low slung garden elements and plants, using them all as a gently rolling texture just above the ground provide the pop of greenery while at the same time not overpowering the façade of the house itself. The pillowy shrubs soften up the hard lines of the home and the scattered pavers give a little disorganized meandering pathway to the front door. Don’t close up that beautiful exterior, keep it open so everyone can see the artistry and design of the home.
If you had to think of a complete polar opposite and you happen to be one of those modern design types, we do have a section all for yourself.
