If you happen to be lucky enough to have any sort of a backyard in New York City, the odds of you finding that type of a space, while still being close to the action (ie. anywhere with easy access to the actual city itself), odds are you’re probably in Brooklyn or maybe Queens and the “outdoor space” is really just a small yard of a few square feet looking at fences and a brick wall. New Yorkers have been excellent at turning their little piece of the outdoors into an extra entertaining space for as long as we’ve been yearning for the outdoors. Generally speaking like the rest of NYC it means you won’t have much space at all, so keeping it simply with a couple of four season garden chairs and a small café style table is the best way to go. We really like the broken flag stones / blue stone, in this particular instance it adds to the charm of the smaller urban oasis getaway.
Once you get the outdoor Brooklyn style down pat, then it’s time to fix up that little apartment just above. There are a lot of amazingly cool designers who are doing some pretty great things out in Brooklyn, just like the food and the drink, so too the living and style. Some time way in the past we did a write up on Uhuru Design in Brooklyn. Splurge on a piece or two.
