If we take this statement at face value, architecture is meant to inspire us, to lend a sense of wonder to the world around us and to help us interpret that world. Sometimes calling us to question what is beauty, art, buildings, a home, a house. In this case the above, for those who may not be all that familiar with Brutalism or the architects who experimented with the style.
The Wotruba Church, also known as Kirche Zur Heiligsten Dreifaltigkeit, or in English, the Church of the Most Holy Trinity is in Vienna, it was built between 1974 and 1976, based on a design by the artist, sculptor Fritz Wotruba. It is the crossroads of where architecture meets sculpture, hardly the first instance and hardly the last. A beautiful piece of work. Honest and sincere.
