Hmm, now we’re just feeling a little embarrassed by all of this. For a group of people who pretend and claim to know everything about design and living well it seems that we were completely unaware of the fact that the glorious Villa D’Este on Lake Como is a hotel. For some reason we had always thought it was a museum now, or in quasi-private or government owned hands. Seems that we were completely mistaken, Yes, Villa D’Este, perhaps the grandest estate on Lake Como in Italy is indeed a hotel and all are welcome to stay. Heck in case you had a couple extra bucks laying around and were searching high and low for that last minute wedding venue you could ever rent the whole place out. On the one hand this level us somewhat saddened that any Tom, Dick and Harry can get through the gates at that fantastic garden, but on the flip side, it begs the question why we aren’t making plane reservations ourselves.
We did do a quick price check on rooms on their website and even on the low season (October / November) the basic room rate was about $1,000 USD, so not exactly accessible to all.
We tossed this up in Veranda, because as of yet we don’t officially cover vacation destinations anywhere and besides, would you look at that garden shot above? Seriously.
