We kind of love Central Park just the way it is and would have no desire to ever change it, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t envision Architecture as theory and ideas that inspire us. There’s some pretty crazy “theoretical architecture” out there, for some its just mental masturbation which will never come to any fruition, but for others it is a way to address complex problems by showing possibilities. In the New York Horizon, where Central Park is sunk in to the ground and lined with glass walls to give a sense of reflected perpetual greenery, the idea of course will never happen. But the design by Yitan Sun and Jianshi Wu is pretty spectacular to behold. Rather than the gently sloping paths of the park now, it would be transformed into this rugged fantastical landscape almost literally otherworldly.
