Gearing up for our Earth Month postings, we’ve been a little slow on the whole process, but now reaching our stride. Among other things we’re going to re-cap some of our favorite entries from all the various years of the past solar decathlons. The winner for 2009 was team Germany which came in with a pretty spectacular house idea, although not sure if we personally love the black silicon facade, their basic idea and tag line was “Focus On The Facade” – thus the vast majority of the facade, other than windows and other necessary openings we covered in black solar panels. Besides the fact that it’s a visually stunning house in it’s simplicity. The roof has monocrystaline solar panels while the facade is covered in CIGS panels, very similar to the thin film flexible panels we previous wrote about. So the facade become near indestructible, cool.
You can pick up some more photos of the project from the official website for the solar decathlon, but it also has construction drawings and more detail description and cost estimates
