The number of articles that have been written over the past few days dissecting the recent rollout and pricing for Tesla’s Solar roof has been significant. For the most part they have either been focused on how the pricing would play in to the overall value of Tesla as a company (coming from all the usual financial publications) and the flip side to that have been the tech publications that have been gushing over the aesthetics and how its a “Game Changer”. As mentioned previously, Tesla’s Solar Roof concept is hardly a new idea, it’s just a more well refined and better financed idea.
The pricing for the actual Shingle is only part of the story, more importantly is the price relative to performance across all the different States. Rather than try and do our own analysis, better to leave it to someone with a bit more experience, Consumer Reports, who did a real world comparison with actual homes.
All of this is great, but really, at least for now only serves those who live in California where the solar roof will first be made available, hopefully installations will begin in July.
